Lebanon Borough Dog Abandonment Case Under Investigation as State Police Ask Public for Information

A dog abandonment investigation is underway in Hunterdon County after authorities said an animal was left behind in Lebanon Borough earlier this year. New Jersey State Police are now asking members of the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the person involved.

According to officials, troopers responded on March 24 after receiving reports about an abandoned dog in the area of Main Street in Lebanon Borough. Animal control officers also arrived at the scene and safely took custody of the dog.

During the investigation, authorities located a nearby surveillance camera that captured part of the incident. Investigators reviewed the footage and said it showed a woman walking the dog on a leash near a black Nissan Altima. Police described the woman as wearing a red long-sleeve shirt and black pants at the time.

Officials said the vehicle appeared to be parked near a fire hydrant along Main Street. The video reportedly showed the woman walking the dog around the back of the car before moving out of the camera’s view. A short time later, she was seen returning to the vehicle without the dog and then leaving the area.

State Police said the Nissan Altima appeared to have New Jersey license plates displayed on both the front and rear of the vehicle. Investigators are continuing efforts to determine the identity of the woman and gather additional details about the incident.

Authorities have not released further information about the condition of the dog or whether any charges are expected at this stage of the investigation. Officials are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who recognizes the vehicle or individual shown in the footage to contact law enforcement.

Anonymous tips are also being accepted as investigators continue to review evidence connected to the case.
