Hopewell Valley Athletic Director Faces Charges After Pennsylvania Bedroom Window Incident
Hopewell Valley Regional School District’s athletic director is facing criminal charges in Pennsylvania after police say he was seen looking through the bedroom window of a young female neighbour late at night.
Winfield A. “Tripp” Becker, 48, has been charged with loitering and prowling at nighttime and harassment in connection with an incident reported Aug. 6 in Plumstead Township, Bucks County, according to police and court information cited in the case.
Police were called to a home on Split Log Drive in the Cabin Run Development at about 10:40 p.m. after a report that a man was allegedly looking into a bedroom window. Investigators later identified Becker as the person they believed was involved, according to the police account.
Authorities said the incident was recorded by a home security camera. The footage reportedly played a role in identifying the suspect.
Police described Becker as a known neighbour of the young female involved in the incident. Court records indicate he was issued a summons on Aug. 11 rather than being taken into custody. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 8.
The charges against Becker are allegations, and the case remains pending. A criminal charge does not establish guilt, and Becker is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The incident has also drawn attention because of Becker’s position within the Hopewell Valley Regional School District in New Jersey. District records identify him as the director of athletics, a position connected with the district’s middle and high school athletic programmes.
The district’s official staff directory currently lists Becker as its director of athletics. Records from the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association also identify him with Hopewell Valley Regional High School in the athletic director role.
Following news of the allegations, Hopewell Valley Regional School District Superintendent Rosetta Treece informed the school community that the employee involved had been placed on leave and prohibited from entering school property.
Treece did not identify the employee by name in the statement. She said the allegations did not involve conduct within the school district and were not connected to district students.
The superintendent also said the district could not provide additional information because the matter involved a confidential personnel issue and an ongoing investigation.
That distinction is important because the reported conduct occurred in Pennsylvania, outside the school district, and authorities have not alleged that the incident involved any Hopewell Valley student.
Becker has held a long-standing role in Hopewell Valley athletics. District materials have identified him as an athletic director overseeing middle and high school athletics, while NJSIAA records show his involvement with statewide interscholastic athletics.
The case now moves into the Pennsylvania court process. Becker’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8, when the allegations and available evidence can proceed through the legal system.
The reported charges stem from a single nighttime incident and should be considered separately from Becker’s professional responsibilities at the school district. At this stage, the publicly reported allegations do not establish that any misconduct occurred involving students or school activities.
An attorney for Becker did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and Becker also did not return a call seeking comment, according to the information provided in the initial report.
The Plumstead Township Police Department handles law-enforcement matters in the Pennsylvania community where the incident was reported. The department says its investigative division handles more complex cases and works with other public-safety agencies when necessary.
As the investigation and court proceedings continue, additional information could become available through official court or law-enforcement records. Until then, the allegations remain unresolved, and Becker retains the presumption of innocence under the law.
For residents and members of the school community, the immediate focus is likely to remain on the legal process and the district’s decision to place the employee on leave while the matter is investigated.
