‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Secures Season 5 as New Creative Team Prepares Next Chapter for the Hit Drama
Fans of Sullivan’s Crossing have more to look forward to as the popular Canadian romance drama has officially been renewed for a fifth season. Despite major changes behind the scenes and notable cast departures, the series is moving ahead with a new creative direction. Production for Season 5 is scheduled to begin in Nova Scotia later this summer, while the new season is expected to premiere on The CW in 2027.
The renewal confirms that the series continues to be an important title for both CTV and The CW, even after recent changes to its production team. One of the biggest developments is the transition in creative leadership. Series creator Roma Roth has stepped down from her role as head writer and showrunner. However, she will remain involved with the project as an executive producer. Floyd Kane, best known for creating Diggstown, will now lead the series as its new showrunner.
The leadership change comes shortly after another major shift involving the show’s cast. Season 4 became the first installment of Sullivan’s Crossing without Scott Patterson, who portrayed Harry “Sully” Sullivan. His absence marked a significant moment for longtime viewers, as Sully had been one of the central characters since the series began.
Earlier this year, Patterson publicly addressed his departure, explaining that ongoing creative differences led him to leave the show. According to his statement, he believed the disagreements had reached a point where continuing with the series was no longer possible. He also expressed appreciation for the character and said he had worked hard to protect Sully’s story throughout the show’s run.
Patterson also clarified that he did not voluntarily walk away from fans or the series without reason. He stated that he always respected the audience and wanted viewers to understand that his exit was connected to creative decisions rather than a lack of commitment to the role.
Before Patterson shared his statement, Roma Roth had discussed Sully’s storyline in an interview. She explained that Season 3 concluded with the character leaving for Ireland to begin a new chapter in his life. Since Season 4 starts immediately after those events, Sully remains overseas and is not physically present in the story. However, Roth noted that the character still exists within the show’s world and could return in future seasons if it fits the ongoing creative plans.
Although one familiar face exited the series, Season 4 introduced several new characters to expand the story. Fuad Ahmed joined the cast as Amir Malik, while Jonathan Silverman appeared as Quincy Carlson. Colby Frost took on the role of Ben Nelson, and Emerson MacNeil joined the series as Tracy Nelson. These additions helped introduce new storylines while maintaining the show’s focus on relationships, family, and life in the small Nova Scotia community.
Several core cast members also returned for Season 4, including Morgan Kohan as Maggie Sullivan, Chad Michael Murray as Cal Jones, Tom Jackson as Frank Cranebear, Andrea Menard as Edna Cranebear, and Marcus Rosner as Liam. Their continued presence helped maintain continuity as the series entered a new phase.
Since its debut on CTV in March 2023, Sullivan’s Crossing has steadily built a loyal audience. The drama follows neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan, who returns to her hometown in Nova Scotia after personal and legal challenges, reconnecting with her estranged father while rebuilding her life and relationships.
With a confirmed fifth season, a new showrunner, and an established cast continuing the story, Sullivan’s Crossing is preparing for another chapter. While recent creative changes have drawn attention, the renewal signals that the series remains an active part of the network’s future programming. Fans can also revisit the journey so far, as Seasons 1 through 4 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
