Former NFL Player Marcellus Wiley Detained in Florida After Domestic Violence Allegations
Former NFL player and former sports analyst Marcellus Wiley has been arrested in Florida following serious allegations of domestic violence involving his wife, according to police reports and statements provided to authorities.
Law enforcement officials in Orlando were called on Saturday afternoon after Wiley’s wife, Annemarie, reported an incident of alleged battery inside their residence. According to the information provided to police, she accused Wiley of physically and verbally threatening her during a dispute.
As per the complaint, Annemarie stated that Wiley allegedly poked her in the cheek in a forceful manner during an argument. She also told officers that he threatened to kill her during the same confrontation. The incident reportedly took place in front of the couple’s young children, along with other children who were present in the home at the time.
Reports further indicate that a separate earlier incident was also described to authorities, where Annemarie claimed Wiley stood over her while she was sitting on a bed and again used a finger to aggressively poke her cheek in front of their seven-year-old daughter.
Police documentation reviewed from the case states that the family was in Orlando for a youth basketball tournament when the alleged incident occurred. Following the complaint, officers conducted an initial review of statements and evidence provided by both sides.
Annemarie informed police that she was planning to file for divorce following the incident.
Wiley, however, reportedly denied any physical altercation when speaking with law enforcement. He also presented text messages between himself and his wife that he described as cordial in nature. Despite his denial, authorities determined there was probable cause to proceed with an arrest on a charge related to domestic violence battery.
Marcellus Wiley is a former NFL defensive lineman who played in the league from 1997 to 2006 after being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft. He was recognized as a second-team All-Pro in 2001 after a standout season with 13 sacks and five forced fumbles.
Following his retirement from professional football, Wiley transitioned into sports media, working as an analyst for major networks including ESPN and FS1, where he covered NFL-related programming and sports commentary.
Authorities have not released further details regarding court proceedings or potential next steps in the case. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
