Former Massachusetts Teacher Faces Serious Child Sexual Assault Charges After Grand Jury Indictment
A former Massachusetts teacher who was previously recognised as an Amazon Teacher of the Year is facing multiple felony charges after a grand jury indicted him in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a teenage student.
According to prosecutors, 38-year-old Tymond Tran was indicted on July 15 by an Essex County grand jury on several criminal charges, including aggravated rape of a child involving an age difference of more than 10 years. The indictment also includes charges of indecent assault and battery on a person aged 14 or older, posing or exhibiting a child in the nude, and providing obscene material to a minor.
Authorities said the allegations stem from incidents that reportedly occurred during the 2022–2023 school year. Investigators said the alleged victim was 14 years old at the time of the reported offences. The case remained under investigation before being presented to the grand jury, which returned the indictment earlier this month.
The school where Tran most recently worked confirmed that his employment ended shortly after officials were informed about the criminal case. In a public statement, Lowell Community Charter Public School said it immediately terminated Tran’s employment after receiving information from the Essex District Attorney’s Office regarding the criminal charges.
School officials did not release additional details about Tran’s employment history or the circumstances surrounding the investigation. They also did not comment further because the criminal proceedings are ongoing.
Tran appeared in court for his arraignment on Wednesday, where he entered a plea of not guilty to all charges. Following the hearing, the court ordered that he be released under strict home confinement. As part of the release conditions, he must wear a GPS monitoring device while awaiting future court proceedings.
Court records show that Tran is scheduled to return to court on August 26 for the next hearing in the case. Prosecutors have not publicly disclosed additional evidence because the matter remains active in the judicial system.
Cases involving allegations of sexual abuse against minors are treated as some of the most serious criminal offences under Massachusetts law. When a grand jury issues an indictment, it means prosecutors have presented enough evidence to establish probable cause for the criminal charges to move forward. An indictment, however, is not a finding of guilt, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The investigation and upcoming court proceedings will determine how the case progresses. Authorities have not announced whether additional charges or victims are involved, and no further information has been released at this stage.
