Elderly Woman Dies Following Early Morning 3-Alarm Residential Fire in New Brunswick, New Jersey

An elderly woman has died after a severe three-alarm fire broke out at a multifamily residence in New Brunswick, New Jersey, during the early hours of Monday morning, according to local officials.

Emergency services were called to the property located on Delavan Street shortly after 6:00 a.m. Fire crews arrived quickly at the scene as the blaze had already developed into a significant structure fire involving multiple floors of the building.

During firefighting and rescue operations, crews conducted an immediate search of the residence. Authorities confirmed that firefighters located an elderly female victim inside the building. She was reported to be in her 80s.

The victim was urgently removed from the burning structure and transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead at 7:13 a.m. by a physician at the hospital.

Officials stated that the woman was the owner of the property. She lived on the second and third floors of the three-story home, while the first floor had been rented out to a tenant.

Fire officials reported that the blaze was largely contained to the upper floors of the building. Although the first floor did not burn, it did suffer water damage during firefighting operations. Authorities also confirmed that the fire did not extend to any neighboring properties.

The resident living on the first floor was displaced as a result of the incident. Local assistance, including support from the American Red Cross, has been provided to help address immediate needs such as temporary shelter and basic supplies.

At this stage, investigators are still working to determine the exact cause and origin of the fire. However, officials have stated that there is currently no indication suggesting the fire was suspicious in nature.

The investigation remains ongoing as fire and safety authorities continue to examine the scene and gather evidence to fully understand how the incident began.
