Two Young Children Found Safe After Vehicle Theft Incident Outside New Jersey Convenience Store

A late-night vehicle theft outside a convenience store in Cumberland County, New Jersey, briefly placed two young children in danger before police were able to recover the car and ensure their safety.
According to local law enforcement, the incident took place early Tuesday morning at a Wawa located on East Broad Street in Bridgeton. A mother had stopped at the store and left her two children, aged 1 and 7, inside the vehicle while the engine was still running. During that short period, the car was stolen from the parking lot.
Bridgeton Police responded to the report of a stolen vehicle around 1:20 a.m. Officers quickly began searching the area after being notified that the vehicle had been taken with children still inside. The situation raised immediate concern due to the presence of minors in the stolen car.
Roughly 30 minutes after the theft was reported, authorities located the missing vehicle about one and a half miles away on the 100 block of Colfax Street in Bridgeton. Police confirmed that both children were still inside the car and were found unharmed.
The suspect had already fled the scene before officers arrived at the recovered vehicle, according to police. At this stage, no arrests have been reported, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to search for the individual responsible.
Law enforcement officials have not released further details about the suspect but are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case. Police emphasized that even small tips could help move the investigation forward.
While the children were safely returned without physical injuries, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about leaving vehicles unattended with engines running, especially when minors are inside. Authorities often warn that such situations can create easy opportunities for theft and can quickly escalate into dangerous circumstances.
Bridgeton Police continue to review evidence and gather information related to the case as they work to identify and locate the suspect involved in the theft.
