Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Stolen Luxury SUV Across North Jersey

A 21-year-old man from Newark has been taken into custody after police say he led officers on a fast-moving chase in a stolen luxury SUV across multiple towns in North Jersey early Monday morning. Authorities have confirmed that the incident began after a high-end vehicle was reported stolen and ended with the suspect’s arrest following a brief foot pursuit.

According to police and court records, the accused, Munir Muhammad, is facing multiple charges, including second-degree receiving stolen property, along with third- and fourth-degree counts related to resisting arrest. Officials say the case is now moving through the legal system as the suspect remains in custody.

The situation started around 3:30 a.m. when a 2021 Lamborghini Urus with California license plates was reported stolen from a vehicle customization business located in Elmwood Park. The shop is known for working on luxury vehicles, making the theft particularly notable due to the high value of the SUV.

Law enforcement officers were able to track the stolen vehicle into Newark shortly after the report. However, when police attempted to approach, the driver fled, triggering a multi-town pursuit. The vehicle was later seen again in Upper Saddle River, where officers took additional action to bring the chase under control.

Police deployed spike strips along Route 17 South near an entrance ramp to the Garden State Parkway in an effort to stop the vehicle. Despite this, the chase continued onto the Parkway before the SUV eventually exited near Hillside. The pursuit came to an end when the vehicle stopped due to a flat tire caused by the spike strips.

Authorities reported that several individuals inside the vehicle attempted to escape on foot after it came to a stop. A responding officer pursued the driver and successfully apprehended him after a short chase. He was later identified as Muhammad.

The suspect was transported to the Bergen County Jail, where he remained in custody as of Tuesday while awaiting a court hearing. At this time, no attorney information has been listed in official records.

The stolen vehicle involved in the case is considered a high-value luxury SUV. According to automotive industry estimates, a 2021 Lamborghini Urus carries an approximate value of $200,000, highlighting the seriousness of the theft.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns around high-end vehicle thefts and the risks associated with police pursuits across busy roadways. Authorities continue to investigate the case, including identifying any additional individuals who may have been involved in the incident.
