Rising Union Catholic Freshman Sets New Jersey 800m Record at National Meet
A new name is quickly gaining attention in high school track and field, as Union Catholic freshman Abigail Robisky delivered a standout performance on a national stage in New York City. Competing at Track Night NYC held at Icahn Stadium, the young athlete made history by setting a new New Jersey freshman record in the 800-meter run, marking an early milestone in what appears to be a promising career.
While much of the spotlight during the event was focused on a highly anticipated 800-meter race featuring top runners Natalie Dumas and Paige Sheppard, Robisky quietly produced one of the most significant performances of the night. Running against strong competition, she clocked an impressive time of 2:06.41, officially breaking the previous state freshman record.
The earlier record of 2:07.11 was held by her own Union Catholic teammate, Paige Sheppard, who set it during the 2024 Union County Championships. Robisky’s achievement not only surpasses that mark but also highlights the strength of Union Catholic’s track program, which continues to produce elite-level athletes at a young age.
For a freshman to compete at this level and deliver such a performance in a national meet setting reflects both talent and composure. The 800-meter race is known for demanding a balance of speed, endurance, and race strategy, making Robisky’s record-breaking time even more notable.
Her performance at Icahn Stadium signals the arrival of a new contender in U.S. high school track and field. As the season progresses, attention will likely continue to grow around Robisky as she builds on this achievement and competes against more experienced runners.
This record-setting moment not only adds a new chapter to New Jersey high school athletics but also sets a high benchmark for future freshman athletes aiming to make their mark early in their careers.
