New Jersey Sees Surge in Million-Dollar Powerball Wins as 18 Lucky Tickets Hit Big

A recent Powerball drawing brought an unusual wave of big wins across New Jersey, with 18 tickets in the state earning prizes of at least $1 million. According to the New Jersey Lottery, these tickets matched all five main numbers but did not match the Powerball, still securing substantial second-tier prizes.
The winning numbers for Wednesday’s drawing were 3, 19, 35, 51, and 67, with the Powerball number 15. While no single ticket in New Jersey claimed the jackpot, the number of high-value winners stood out as significantly higher than usual.
Lottery officials explained that this spike in winners appears to be linked to a common pattern among players. Many participants reportedly selected numbers using a single vertical column on their play slips. This layout is commonly found across lottery forms in multiple states, including New Jersey, which may have contributed to a large group of players choosing identical or similar number combinations.
Among the winning tickets, four were worth $2 million each because they included the Power Play option, which increases non-jackpot prizes for an additional cost. These higher-value tickets were sold at various retail locations across the state, including convenience stores, gas stations, and a Walmart location. The remaining 14 tickets each carried a prize of $1 million and were also sold at a range of everyday retail outlets such as 7-Eleven stores, liquor shops, and quick-stop markets spread across multiple counties.
Although this drawing produced a remarkable number of million-dollar winners in New Jersey, lottery officials did not confirm whether this was a record for a single drawing. Additionally, some details about ticket sale locations were not immediately released at the time of reporting.
Beyond New Jersey, the drawing also created winners in other states. A total of 23 tickets worth $2 million were sold nationwide, including two in Pennsylvania. Another 48 tickets worth $1 million were sold outside New Jersey, with five of those also in Pennsylvania. Like the New Jersey winners, all of these tickets matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball.
The main jackpot for this drawing, valued at $143 million, was split between two ticket holders from Indiana and Kansas. Since the jackpot was claimed, the prize for the next drawing has reset to $20 million, with a cash option of $9.1 million.
Despite the excitement around large winnings, the odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot remain extremely low. A single $2 ticket carries odds of 292,201,338 to 1 for winning the jackpot. However, the chances of matching five numbers without the Powerball, which results in a prize of at least $1 million, are about 1 in 11.7 million. Lower-tier prizes have comparatively better odds, though still challenging.
Powerball drawings are held three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The game is played across 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, making it one of the most widely participated lottery games in the United States.
This latest drawing highlights how shared number selection patterns can sometimes lead to clusters of winners, even when the jackpot itself is not widely claimed. For many players in New Jersey, the outcome turned ordinary tickets into life-changing wins, reinforcing the unpredictable nature of lottery games.
