New Jersey Murder Suspect Returned After Arrest in Philadelphia

A man who had been wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Asbury Park has been taken into custody after being located in Philadelphia, according to New Jersey authorities. The arrest marks a significant development in a homicide investigation that began following a deadly shooting in Monmouth County last year.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced that 32-year-old Jerod L. Jones of Neptune City has been extradited back to New Jersey after his arrest in Philadelphia. Officials confirmed that he is now back in the state to face multiple criminal charges related to the September 2025 shooting.
Investigators allege that the shooting happened at approximately 7:35 p.m. on September 11, 2025, in the 100 block of Monmouth Avenue near the Vita Gardens Apartments in Asbury Park. During the incident, two men were shot.
One of the victims, Tyshan Small, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The second victim survived the shooting after receiving treatment for injuries that authorities described as not life-threatening.
Following the investigation, prosecutors charged Jones with murder, attempted murder, and multiple weapons-related offenses. A grand jury later returned an indictment against him on those charges, allowing the case to move forward through the criminal justice system.
After remaining a fugitive, Jones was eventually located and arrested in Philadelphia. Authorities then completed the extradition process to return him to New Jersey, where he is now being held at the Monmouth County Jail.
Court records show that Jones is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on Friday for further legal proceedings. The hearing will be one of the next steps in the criminal case as prosecutors continue pursuing the charges filed against him.
Jones’ attorney, Michael Cirigliano, declined to comment when contacted on Wednesday.
The case remains active as it proceeds through the New Jersey court system. Authorities have not released any additional information beyond the charges and arrest details already announced.
