Montclair Rider Dies After Early Morning Motorcycle Crash on Route 80 Ramp in Wayne

A 27-year-old motorcyclist from Montclair lost his life following an early morning crash on Route 80 in Passaic County on Friday, according to authorities.

The fatal accident happened shortly after 1 a.m. as Nicholas Coombs was traveling from Route 23 south toward the eastbound entrance ramp for Route 80 in Wayne. Police said his motorcycle struck the guardrail located along the right side of the roadway.

The impact caused Coombs to be thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found him unresponsive before transporting him to St. Joseph’s University Hospital in Paterson for emergency medical treatment.

Despite efforts to save his life, Coombs later died at the hospital, authorities confirmed.

Officials have not released any additional information about what may have led to the crash. The incident remains limited to the details provided by law enforcement, and no further circumstances surrounding the collision have been announced.

Motorcycle crashes can result in severe injuries because riders have less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. Authorities continue to investigate serious roadway incidents to better understand the factors involved and help improve highway safety.

The death of the Montclair resident marks another tragic reminder of the risks associated with motorcycle travel, particularly during overnight and early morning hours. As the investigation continues, officials have not reported any other vehicles being involved in the crash.

The case remains under review by the appropriate authorities, and additional information may be released if new findings become available.
