Middlesex County Man Arrested Following Child Sexual Abuse Material Investigation

A Middlesex County man is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities said investigators discovered child sexual abuse material during a law enforcement operation at his New Jersey residence.
According to prosecutors, 58-year-old Michael R. Shaw of Old Bridge was arrested on June 12 after investigators executed a search warrant at his home as part of an ongoing investigation. The arrest was announced by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities allege that Shaw maintained a peer-to-peer file-sharing network used for child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors said he has been charged with maintaining a child sex abuse material peer-to-peer file-sharing network, along with three counts related to the distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material.
The investigation led law enforcement officials to Shaw’s residence, where authorities carried out the court-authorized search warrant. Following the search, Shaw was taken into custody and formally charged.
Child sexual abuse material cases are typically investigated through specialized cybercrime and digital forensic efforts aimed at identifying the online sharing and possession of illegal content involving minors. Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize the importance of tracking and prosecuting individuals accused of distributing such material through file-sharing platforms and other digital networks.
At this stage, the charges against Shaw remain allegations. As with all criminal cases, a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by New Jersey authorities to investigate crimes involving the exploitation of children and to enforce laws designed to protect minors from abuse and online victimization. Prosecutors have not released additional details regarding the investigation beyond the charges announced.
Further proceedings in the case are expected to take place through the New Jersey court system as the matter moves forward.
