Fire Erupts After Vehicle Slams Into New Jersey Senior Living Community; Residents Safely Evacuated
A frightening incident unfolded in southern New Jersey on Sunday evening after a vehicle crashed into a senior living community and caught fire, prompting an emergency response and the temporary relocation of residents. Despite the dramatic scene, officials confirmed that everyone inside the facility was safely accounted for, and no structural damage was reported to the building.
The accident happened at Ridgewood Senior Living at Smithville, a senior housing community located in Galloway Township, Atlantic County. According to the facility’s management, emergency crews responded quickly after the vehicle struck part of the property and caught fire.
As a safety measure, residents were moved to another section of the complex while firefighters and first responders worked to secure the area. Management later confirmed that every resident and employee was safely evacuated and that no one was left unaccounted for during the incident.
The quick actions of staff members and emergency responders helped prevent what could have become a far more serious situation. While the crash caused concern among residents and their families, officials said the building itself did not suffer structural damage, allowing the facility to focus on restoring normal operations after emergency crews completed their work.

Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Ulh of the Oceanville Fire Company said the incident had the potential to become much more dangerous but was brought under control quickly because of the rapid response from firefighters and support from surrounding communities. Emergency crews were able to contain the fire before it caused significant damage to the facility.
The company that operates Ridgewood Senior Living expressed appreciation for the emergency responders who assisted during the incident. In a public statement, management thanked firefighters and other first responders for their fast action and continued cooperation throughout the emergency.
As of Monday morning, authorities had not released additional information about what caused the crash or whether anyone involved in the vehicle suffered injuries. Officials also had not announced whether an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision was underway.
