Ex-Kansas Basketball Guard Lagerald Vick Arrested After Attempted Murder Charge in Tennessee

Former University of Kansas basketball player Lagerald Vick has been arrested in Tennessee after being charged with attempted first-degree murder following a shooting incident that reportedly took place during a July 4 gathering in Memphis.

According to the information available, Memphis police allege that the shooting happened after a verbal confrontation between Vick and another man at a party. Investigators say the victim told officers that a man approached him while carrying a handgun tucked under his armpit before an argument began.

The victim stated that he turned away from the confrontation and was then shot in the lower back. During the investigation, the victim later identified Lagerald Vick from a six-person photo lineup, according to the reported case records.

Following the investigation, Vick was taken into custody. Court records show that his bond has been set at $1.5 million while the criminal case moves through the legal process. The charge remains an allegation, and the case will be decided through the court system.

Vick is widely known for his basketball career at the University of Kansas, where he played from 2015 through 2019. During his four seasons with the Jayhawks, he appeared in 117 games and started 61 of them. He developed into one of the team’s key contributors and posted his strongest season in 2018–19, averaging 14.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Across his college career, he averaged 9.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

While wearing a Kansas uniform, Vick helped the program reach deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. The Jayhawks advanced to the Elite Eight during the 2015–16 and 2016–17 seasons before making the Final Four in the 2017–18 campaign. His final college season ended with Kansas being eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The attempted murder charge is not the only legal matter involving Vick. According to the reported court information, he was already facing separate charges connected to an incident that allegedly occurred in April. In that case, he was accused of unlawfully entering his former girlfriend’s residence and taking a television along with other belongings.

At this stage, the criminal allegations against Vick have not been resolved in court. The attempted murder case, along with the previously reported charges, will proceed through the legal process, where prosecutors and the defense will have an opportunity to present their evidence. Until a final court decision is reached, the allegations remain subject to judicial review.
