Elizabeth Scooter Crash Leaves One Dead and Another Fighting for Life After Collision Near Walgreens

A late-night crash involving a motor scooter and a vehicle in Elizabeth turned deadly Wednesday after the scooter collided with a car entering a Walgreens parking lot, according to city officials.

Authorities said the crash happened around 9:24 p.m. on Newark Avenue near a Walgreens location in Elizabeth. Investigators said the scooter was traveling south on Newark Avenue when it struck a vehicle that was turning into the parking lot.

The operator of the scooter suffered severe injuries in the collision and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Officials have not yet publicly released his identity.

A passenger who was riding on the scooter was also badly hurt in the crash. Emergency responders transported the victim to another hospital for treatment. Authorities described the passenger’s condition as critical.

Officials have not released additional details about the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, and no charges or citations were immediately announced as the investigation continued Thursday.

The deadly collision adds to growing concerns about nighttime roadway safety and scooter-related crashes in busy urban areas across New Jersey. Newark Avenue remained an active investigation scene following the incident as authorities worked to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the crash.
