Cold Rain, Strong Winds to Soak New Jersey During Memorial Day Weekend

New Jersey residents heading into the Memorial Day weekend are facing a stretch of chilly, wet, and windy weather that could disrupt outdoor plans across the state. Forecasts show periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, and temperatures running far below what is normal for late May.

Weather conditions are expected to worsen through Saturday afternoon and continue into Sunday as a slow-moving weather system settles over the region. Forecasters say many parts of New Jersey could receive between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall before the system begins to weaken.

Saturday’s weather is expected to feel more like early spring than the unofficial start of summer. Temperatures are likely to stay in the mid-to-upper 50s across much of the state, creating a cold and damp atmosphere for holiday travelers and residents planning outdoor events.

Strong winds are also expected to impact the region throughout Saturday. Coastal communities along the Jersey Shore could experience wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph, while inland areas may see gusts between 25 and 35 mph. Weather officials say the strongest winds should gradually weaken later Saturday night.

The stormy setup is also creating dangerous conditions near the ocean. Officials are warning beachgoers about a high risk of rip currents along the Jersey Shore. Ocean temperatures remain cold, mainly in the 50s and low 60s, increasing the danger for anyone entering the water during the holiday weekend.

Rain is expected to continue into Sunday, although wind conditions should slowly improve during the day. Temperatures may rise slightly, with highs reaching the 60s in many areas. Despite the steady rainfall, forecasters currently do not expect major flooding issues across the state.

Cloudy skies and occasional showers may continue into Memorial Day on Monday as the stalled weather front lingers nearby. However, conditions are expected to improve compared to the weekend. Temperatures could return to the 70s in several parts of New Jersey, bringing a more comfortable feel for the holiday.

There is still some uncertainty surrounding Monday’s forecast. Some weather models suggest lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms could continue into parts of the day, while others show improving and drier conditions arriving sooner.

Looking ahead, the weather pattern is expected to become calmer by Tuesday and Wednesday. Forecasts show warmer temperatures returning, with highs climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s under drier and more stable conditions.

The unsettled holiday weekend forecast comes at a time when many families across New Jersey typically head outdoors for barbecues, beach trips, travel, and community events. Residents are being advised to closely monitor updated forecasts and prepare for changing weather conditions through the weekend.
