Busch Gardens Tampa Bay to Retire Iconic Kumba Roller Coaster After More Than Three Decades

Visitors to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay have only a short time left to experience one of the park’s most well-known attractions. The theme park has announced that Kumba, one of its longest-running roller coasters, will permanently close after serving riders for 33 years.

The final public ride on Kumba is scheduled for August 2, marking the end of an era for a coaster that has been a favorite among thrill seekers since it first opened. After its retirement, the attraction will be removed to make room for a new roller coaster known as Kumba’s Revenge.

Before the coaster officially closes, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is giving annual pass holders a special opportunity to enjoy one last ride. Pass members will receive exclusive ride access from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on August 1, one day before Kumba’s final day of operation.

For guests who are not currently pass holders, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay offers annual pass options starting at $13 per month. These memberships include unlimited park admission, access to seasonal events, free parking, exclusive experiences, and various discounts throughout the year.

Kumba has been a major part of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay since its debut in 1993. At the time of its opening, it earned recognition as Florida’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster, making it one of the state’s most exciting attractions.

The steel coaster delivers an intense experience that lasts about three minutes, beginning with a dramatic 135-foot drop before reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Over the years, its combination of speed, height, and multiple inversions helped establish Kumba as one of the park’s signature rides and a memorable experience for millions of visitors.

The upcoming closure marks the end of a significant chapter in Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s history. While longtime fans prepare to say goodbye to a coaster that has entertained guests for more than three decades, the park is also looking ahead with plans to introduce Kumba’s Revenge, a new attraction that will take the place of the retiring ride.

For many visitors, the remaining days of Kumba’s operation offer a final chance to experience one of Florida’s most recognizable roller coasters before it becomes part of the park’s history.
