Burglary Crew Sparks High-Speed Police Chase Through Washington Township Neighborhood in New Jersey

A late-night burglary incident in Gloucester County turned into a dangerous police chase after a group of suspects allegedly broke into multiple vehicles and stole cars from a residential neighborhood in Washington Township, New Jersey. The situation escalated quickly, leading to reckless driving, a crash, and a cross-state escape into Philadelphia.

According to local police reports, officers were called around 11:07 p.m. on Friday to the Bateman Farms development after residents reported suspicious activity. Several individuals were seen attempting to open and enter parked vehicles that were left unlocked in the area. When officers arrived, they spotted two vehicles leaving the neighborhood, including a white Jeep Compass and a white Chevrolet SUV.

Police attempted to stop both vehicles, but the drivers refused to pull over and instead sped away from the scene. During the chase, the suspects reportedly drove through red lights at major intersections, including Hurffville-Grenloch Road and Woodbury-Turnersville Road. Authorities also noted that the fleeing vehicles narrowly avoided a serious collision with an oncoming tractor-trailer, highlighting the dangerous nature of the pursuit.

As officers continued the chase, the situation became more chaotic. Two male suspects reportedly jumped out of the moving Jeep Compass and immediately entered the Chevrolet SUV, which had earlier been confirmed as stolen from a residence in Washington Township. The Jeep, now driverless, continued rolling down the road before crashing into several parked vehicles and eventually striking a tree along Eastview Avenue.

Inside the abandoned Jeep, police later discovered various stolen items, including wallets, credit cards, cash, and other personal belongings believed to be linked to multiple vehicle burglaries reported in the area. Additional break-ins were also reported on nearby streets, including Pennington Way and Upton Way, suggesting a wider pattern of coordinated thefts.

Authorities described all four suspects as young males wearing dark clothing and black face masks, making identification more difficult during the nighttime incident. Investigators also confirmed that the vehicles involved in the chase were stolen from different locations: the Jeep Compass was taken from West Deptford, while the Chevrolet SUV had just been stolen from Bateman Farms. Officials further stated that the license plate displayed on the Jeep had been reported stolen from Philadelphia.

After the chaotic exchange, the Chevrolet SUV continued fleeing the area and was last seen crossing the Walt Whitman Bridge into Philadelphia. Law enforcement agencies from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania are now involved as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police have confirmed that the case remains active as detectives continue to gather surveillance footage and additional evidence from the surrounding neighborhoods. Residents in the affected areas are being urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity that could help identify the suspects.
