Atlantic City Father Charged After Death of 1-Year-Old Daughter in Child Abuse Investigation
A New Jersey father is facing a serious criminal charge after prosecutors alleged that his 1-year-old daughter died from severe injuries while she was in his care. The case has drawn attention across the state as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
According to authorities, 29-year-old Imodd J. Brown Dillihay of Atlantic City was charged with aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of his young daughter. The charge was announced by prosecutors several months after the incident, following an extensive investigation into the child’s injuries and medical findings.
Officials said the tragic incident happened on Feb. 2 when emergency responders were called to an apartment in Atlantic City after receiving reports of an unresponsive child. When police officers arrived at the residence, they found the 1-year-old girl in critical condition. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where medical staff attempted to save her life. Despite those efforts, the child later died from her injuries.
Investigators stated that Brown Dillihay was the child’s only carer at the time the injuries were believed to have occurred. As part of the investigation, authorities gathered medical evidence and reviewed the events leading up to the girl’s death.
An autopsy later determined that the child suffered severe trauma, including swelling of the brain and injuries to her spine. Medical personnel also documented multiple abrasions and bruises on her body, findings that investigators believe are consistent with physical abuse. Based on the medical examination and evidence collected during the investigation, prosecutors concluded that the injuries were fatal.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office formally filed an aggravated manslaughter charge against Brown Dillihay. Under New Jersey law, aggravated manslaughter is a first-degree offense that carries significant penalties if a defendant is convicted. Prosecutors have not announced any additioffencearges at this time, and the investigation remains part of the ongoing criminal case.
Authorities have not publicly identified the child in order to protect the privacy of the victim and her family.
