Arizona Man Charged After Allegedly Stabbing Wife Multiple Times During Domestic Dispute, Police Say

A 32-year-old Arizona man is facing a serious criminal charge after police say he repeatedly stabbed his wife during a violent domestic incident at their apartment in Mesa. Investigators allege the suspect later called 911 himself, admitted to the attack, and told officers he wanted his wife to “stop talking.”
According to the Mesa Police Department, officers responded to an apartment complex around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of a woman suffering from severe injuries. When officers arrived, they found the victim with numerous wounds that appeared to be consistent with stab injuries.
Police said the woman had multiple injuries concentrated on her head, neck, and face. She also suffered defensive wounds on her hands, indicating she may have tried to protect herself during the attack. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities later confirmed that the victim was the suspect’s wife. Her identity has not been released publicly. As of Sunday, officials said she was in stable condition and her injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
The suspect has been identified as Nathaniel Gotham, 32. According to investigators, he has been charged with attempted second-degree murder in connection with the incident.
Police allege that Gotham used a kitchen steak knife during the attack. Court documents state that after contacting emergency services himself, he admitted responsibility for stabbing his wife.
According to the investigation, Gotham allegedly told officers, “I did it, it’s all my fault.” Court records also indicate that he said he wanted to hurt his wife and make her “stop talking.”
Investigators further stated that Gotham allegedly made additional remarks during the incident, telling his wife that she had “wasted the best years of my life” and that he had “ended up with the wrong woman.”
Court documents also indicate that Gotham admitted to a previous history of domestic violence involving his wife. According to those records, he acknowledged that he had allegedly choked her several years earlier.
The investigation remains ongoing as the criminal case moves through the legal process. Authorities have not released additional details about the incident or whether any further charges could be considered.
Domestic violence cases often involve repeated patterns of abuse that can escalate over time. Law enforcement agencies encourage victims or anyone concerned about their safety to seek help from local authorities or domestic violence support organizations.
