Late-Night Dispute in Bergen County Turns Violent, Two Arrested After Brutal Screwdriver Attack

A violent incident in Bergen County, New Jersey, has led to the arrest of two men after a late-night argument escalated into a serious assault that left a 30-year-old man with multiple injuries. Authorities confirmed that the attack took place in the early hours of March 22 inside a residence in Palisades Park.

According to police officials, the situation began as a gathering where alcohol was being consumed. At approximately 3:40 a.m., a dispute broke out among three men inside the home. What started as an argument quickly turned dangerous when one of the individuals was allegedly attacked with a screwdriver.

Law enforcement authorities stated that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds, including injuries to the neck and back. In addition to the stabbing, the victim also sustained a fractured jaw during the assault, indicating the severity of the attack. Despite his injuries, the man managed to escape from the residence and ran into the neighborhood seeking help.

Police said the victim approached a nearby home in the area of East Homestead Avenue and Sunset Place, where he knocked on a door to get assistance. Emergency services were then contacted, and the injured man received medical attention.

Following the incident, Palisades Park police launched an investigation to identify those responsible. Detectives worked through the details of the case and gathered evidence that ultimately led to the arrest of two local residents.

Authorities confirmed that a 46-year-old man, identified as Federico Aguinchapen, has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault. A second individual, a 33-year-old man, is facing multiple charges, including fourth-degree aggravated assault as well as third- and fourth-degree weapons offenses.

Officials have not released attorney information for either of the accused individuals in court documents at this time.

Police leadership acknowledged the seriousness of the case and emphasized the coordinated efforts of law enforcement in responding to the incident. The department highlighted the commitment of its officers and detectives in ensuring that those involved in the assault were identified and taken into custody.

The case remains an example of how quickly situations involving alcohol can escalate into dangerous and life-threatening violence. Authorities continue to stress the importance of conflict de-escalation and responsible behavior to prevent such incidents from occurring.
