Federal Border Agents Shoot Two People in Southeast Portland Parking Lot, Triggering Official Review

On Thursday afternoon, CBP agents shot two people in a parking lot outside a Southeast Portland medical institution. This worried state and local officials. Witnesses and police reported the incident near Adventist Health Medical Office 3 at 10201 S.E. Main Street.
During the argument, officials say a married couple was hit. Audio from dispatch and Portland police sources says the male harmed his arm or leg and the woman her chest. Police haven’t commented on their situation.
The gunshot occurred when federal authorities tried to halt a truck that entered the parking lot around 2:15 p.m. When the argument escalated, witnesses said the officers tried to control the car.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, said the agents stopped a car and shot in self-defense. She stated that one of the car’s passengers was targeted because of their criminal history, including ties to a Venezuelan violent crime cell. McLaughlin said the truck driver tried to hit the police, causing one to shoot in self-defense. The driver drove off once the passenger got out.
Two CBP agents allegedly attacked federal authorities, which the FBI’s Portland branch is investigating. Officials claimed the two fled and were getting medical treatment after the incident.
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said the state would investigate to see how federal agents used force. Rayfield said the state is committed to holding federal personnel accountable and ensuring they execute their jobs.
Region residents are interested in the event. A candlelight vigil outside Portland City Hall gathered hundreds. Community leaders held news conferences to discuss the rise in violence and request inquiry transparency.
This stage lacks information on what happened before the shooting. More information will emerge as the authorities investigate.
