Minneapolis Mayor Calls for ICE Withdrawal After Federal Agent Shooting Leaves Woman Dead

A Minneapolis neighborhood federal agent was shot and died, prompting Mayor Jacob Frey to criticize ICE. ICE’s targeted operation sparked public outrage, political conflict, and a federal investigation.

In an emotional press conference, Mayor Frey urged ICE must leave Minneapolis. According to him, the group promoted fear rather than safety. The mayor claims the latest event has killed, frightened families, and intimidated lifelong residents.

While ICE enforced the neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, a gunshot happened. Federal officials and an SUV-driving woman fought, according to witnesses and social media users. Police surrounded the car while one tried to open the driver’s door. Later, the driver fled as a gun-wielding officer approached.

A moving SUV hit an armed officer. Officers stood and shot the driver numerous times. He veered off and hit two parked automobiles before stopping. The woman had a headshot wound, authorities said. She is unidentified.

Brian O’Hara, Minneapolis Police Chief, said the FBI and MBI are investigating. Local police are not investigating since federal agents are involved.

The eighth ICE-related death since 2024 has sparked national debate over immigration enforcement and force. As the video spread, public outrage grew, especially in a place where local leaders oppose federal immigration.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem characterized the officer’s shooting self-defense. At a Texas press conference, she said the officer quickly defended himself and others, emphasizing the risks federal law enforcement faces daily.

This explanation was rejected by Mayor Frey. He disputed the shooting was legal and accused federal officials of controlling the narrative before the probe after reviewing the footage. He also blamed the federal government’s immigration policies, particularly the deployment of over 2,000 officers to Minneapolis–St. Paul, for street instability and concern.

The dispute highlights major immigration enforcement disparities between local Democratic officials and the federal government. While investigations continue, civil rights groups, lawmakers, and the public may question accountability, use of force, and federal agency engagement in local regions.

Immigration policy, public safety, and city-federal power are hot topics in Minneapolis.
