New Jersey Opens State-Owned Land Near Bayonne and Linden Stations for New Housing Development
New Jersey has taken another step toward expanding housing opportunities by inviting private developers to submit proposals for new residential projects on state-owned land located near two NJ Transit rail stations. The initiative focuses on properties in Bayonne and Linden and is designed to encourage housing development in areas with easy access to public transportation.
The requests for proposals (RFPs) have been issued jointly by NJ Transit and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). Interested developers have until late September to submit their proposals for the two sites.
The announcement follows recent action by the state government aimed at increasing the availability of housing across New Jersey. Earlier this year, Governor Mikie Sherrill signed Executive Order No. 17, which directs state agencies to speed up housing production while improving access to homes for residents.
By making state-owned properties available for development, New Jersey is encouraging projects that are connected to public transit. Housing located near train stations can provide residents with more convenient transportation options and easier access to jobs, education, and daily services.
The Bayonne and Linden locations were selected as part of the state’s broader effort to support transit-orientated development.
