Teen Driver Faces Vehicular Homicide Charges After Fatal Broadway Crash That Claimed Life of Father of Two

A 19-year-old driver from Long Branch is now facing serious vehicular homicide charges after a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place earlier this month in Monmouth County, according to authorities.
The incident occurred on May 1 at around 8:46 p.m. in the area of 259 Broadway. Officials say a 57-year-old man, Armindo A. Vieira of West Long Branch, was getting into his parked vehicle when he was struck by a car. Vieira, a father of two, died as a result of the collision.
Law enforcement officials from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the driver, identified as Jennifer Perez-Martinez, allegedly hit Vieira and then left the scene shortly after the crash. Authorities also stated that the crash took place in a designated school zone.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Perez-Martinez was impaired at the time she was driving in the area. Following the investigation, she was formally charged on Saturday with vehicular homicide in connection with the incident.
Investigators have not publicly shared how they were able to identify and locate the suspect vehicle or connect Perez-Martinez to the crash. The case details remain limited at this stage as legal proceedings move forward.
Perez-Martinez’s attorney, Matthew Jordan, said he had not yet received extensive information from prosecutors regarding the case, adding that it is a deeply unfortunate situation for everyone involved.
The victim, Armindo A. Vieira, originally from the Leiria district of Portugal, was remembered in his obituary for his dedication to his work as a union operating engineer. Family members and the local community are mourning the sudden loss of a man described as a hardworking father.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash as the case proceeds through the legal system.
