Costco to Close All Stores for Memorial Day 2026 as Shoppers Prepare Early for Holiday Weekend

COSTCO

Millions of shoppers planning their Memorial Day weekend purchases will need to make early arrangements this year, as Costco warehouses across the United States will remain closed on Memorial Day 2026. The retailer, known for shutting down operations on major federal holidays, will once again pause business on Monday, May 25, to allow employees time with their families.

While many major retailers continue operating during holiday weekends to attract shoppers searching for seasonal discounts and last-minute party supplies, Costco has maintained its long-standing policy of closing on select national holidays. The decision means members will not be able to shop at Costco locations or use warehouse services on Memorial Day itself.

Customers preparing for backyard cookouts, family gatherings, and travel plans are expected to visit stores during the weekend before the holiday. Costco warehouses will continue normal operations on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, giving shoppers a final opportunity to stock up before the closure begins.

According to the company’s scheduled operating hours, Executive Members will have earlier shopping access on both weekend days. On Saturday, Executive Members can shop from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., while Gold Star and Business Members can enter starting at 9:30 a.m. Sunday hours will also vary slightly by membership level, with Executive Members allowed entry beginning at 9 a.m. and other members beginning at 10 a.m. All locations are expected to close at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Memorial Day weekend is traditionally one of the busiest shopping periods of the year, especially for groceries, outdoor supplies, appliances, and home products. Costco shoppers can still take advantage of seasonal promotional offers before the holiday closure, including discounts on mattresses, household appliances, tires, and televisions. Some areas may also continue offering same-day grocery delivery services through Instacart before Memorial Day.

Costco’s decision to close for Memorial Day follows the company’s regular practice of shutting stores during several major holidays throughout the year. Customers can also expect closures on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

The temporary shutdown may affect shoppers who rely on Costco for fuel, groceries, and bulk household essentials during holiday weekends. As a result, customers are being encouraged to complete shopping trips ahead of Monday to avoid delays or inconvenience.

Although Costco will remain closed, several other national retailers and businesses are expected to continue operating during Memorial Day. Consumers needing last-minute shopping options may still find alternatives available throughout the holiday.
