FBI Files Federal Case Against Man Accused in 2017 New Jersey Mother and Child Killings

Federal authorities have announced new charges against a man accused in the 2017 killings of a New Jersey woman and her young son, a case that remained unsolved for years before investigators identified a suspect through forensic evidence and digital analysis.
According to the FBI’s Newark office, Nazeer Hameed has now been charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution after investigators determined that he left the United States months after the killings and is believed to currently be living in India. Officials said the federal charge was filed as authorities continue efforts to locate and arrest him.
The case centers on the deaths of 38-year-old Sasikala Narra and her 6-year-old son, Anish Narra, who were found stabbed to death inside their apartment at the Fox Meadow Apartments complex in Burlington County, New Jersey, on March 23, 2017. The victims were discovered by Sasikala’s husband, Hanumantha Narra.
Investigators said a key piece of evidence collected from the crime scene was a droplet of blood that did not belong to either victim or to Hanumantha Narra. Authorities later confirmed the blood sample matched a person unrelated to the family, which became a major turning point in the investigation.
For years, detectives continued working through evidence and reviewing forensic material connected to the case. Authorities said the investigation eventually led them to Hameed, who had reportedly worked alongside Hanumantha Narra as a consultant for a Philadelphia-based company. Sasikala Narra also worked for Cognizant during that time.
According to investigators, Hameed was positively identified after Cognizant agreed to provide his work-issued laptop to U.S. authorities for forensic examination in 2024. Officials said evidence recovered during that review helped strengthen the case against him after years of investigation.
Authorities also stated that investigators uncovered information showing Hameed had allegedly been stalking Sasikala Narra before the killings. Officials further noted that he lived in the same Fox Meadow apartment complex where the Narra family resided.
In November 2025, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Hameed with two counts of first-degree murder along with weapons-related offenses following what prosecutors described as an eight-year investigation into the deaths.
The FBI said Hameed should be considered armed and dangerous. Federal authorities are now offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to his arrest.
Officials are asking anyone with information about Hameed’s whereabouts to contact the FBI or the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office as investigators continue their international search efforts.
The case has continued to draw attention in New Jersey because of the lengthy investigation and the tragic deaths of a mother and her young child. Authorities say the newly announced federal charge is another major step toward bringing the suspect back to the United States to face prosecution.
