Two Contractors Hospitalized After Severe Electrical Shock Incident at Ocean City Home

Two independent contractors were seriously injured after an electrical accident occurred while they were working outside a residential property in Ocean City, New Jersey, on Monday morning. Authorities confirmed that both workers had to be airlifted to a specialized burn treatment center in Philadelphia due to the severity of their injuries.

According to officials, the incident took place shortly before 9 a.m. in the 100 block of Somerset Lane. One of the contractors was handling a metal ladder outside the home when it accidentally came into contact with overhead power lines. The sudden electrical contact caused a powerful shock, leaving the worker injured at the scene.

In an attempt to help his colleague, the second contractor rushed in but also ended up getting injured when he came into contact with the energized ladder. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the location after receiving the distress call.

Ocean City Fire Chief Bernard Walker confirmed the details of the incident and stated that both individuals were stabilized on-site before being transported for advanced medical care. Due to the seriousness of electrical burn injuries, medical teams decided to airlift both victims to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s burn center in Philadelphia, which specializes in treating severe trauma and burn cases.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the identities of the workers or their current medical conditions. However, officials emphasized that incidents involving overhead electrical lines can be extremely dangerous, especially when working with conductive materials such as metal ladders.

Safety experts often highlight that even indirect contact with live power lines can result in life-threatening injuries. Investigations into the exact circumstances of the accident are expected to continue, including whether proper safety measures and clearance distances were maintained during the work.

Local officials have reminded contractors and construction workers to remain cautious around utility lines and to follow all electrical safety guidelines strictly to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident has raised renewed attention on workplace safety standards in residential construction and maintenance work across coastal New Jersey communities.
