New National Survey Shows Growing Public Disapproval of President Trump’s Leadership

A new national poll suggests that President Donald Trump is facing increasing public dissatisfaction, with most Americans expressing negative views about both his job performance and several of his personal leadership qualities.

According to the latest survey, Trump’s net approval rating has fallen to -24, placing it close to the lowest level recorded during his second term and below the lowest point of his first presidency. The findings show that 36% of Americans either strongly or somewhat approve of the way he is handling his job, while 60% say they strongly or somewhat disapprove.

The survey also found that many Americans hold unfavourable opinions about the president beyond his overall job approval. One of the most notable findings involves his age. A majority of respondents, 52%, believe Trump, who is 80 years old, is too old to serve as president. Meanwhile, 37% disagree with that view.

Questions about trust and leadership also received negative responses from many participants. Around 60% of Americans said they do not consider Trump to be honest or trustworthy. In addition, 58% said he does not have the right temperament to lead the country.

The poll further suggests that many Americans feel disconnected from the president. Nearly two-thirds of respondents, 62%, said Trump does not care about people like them. Within that group, 51% believe he does not care at all, while another 12% think he does not care very much.

Participants were also asked to describe Trump using a range of personal characteristics. More respondents associated him with negative traits than positive ones.

Among the strongest opinions recorded in the survey, 52% described Trump as dangerous, while only 19% disagreed with that description. Nearly half of those surveyed, 49%, viewed him as corrupt, compared with 19% who did not.

The poll also found that 45% of respondents described Trump as racist, while 23% rejected that label. The same percentage, 45%, said he is out of touch with everyday Americans, while only 18% disagreed.

Another 44% considered the president to be cruel, compared with 20% who did not share that opinion. At the same time, some respondents acknowledged qualities they viewed as strengths. About 43% described Trump as bold, while 15% disagreed.

When asked whether Trump is divisive, 38% answered ‘yes’ and 13% said ‘no’. On the question of whether he is a strong leader, opinions were more divided, with 36% agreeing and 30% disagreeing.

Views on Trump’s intelligence and effectiveness were also mixed but leaned negative. Thirty-two percent considered him intelligent, while 38% did not. Similarly, 30% viewed him as effective, compared with 33% who disagreed.

Only 24% of respondents described Trump as honest, while 45% said he is not. Even fewer viewed him as steady or inspiring. Just 18% considered him steady, while 34% disagreed. Only 17% described him as inspiring, compared with 40% who did not.

The survey also examined public opinion on several major issues facing the country.

On crime, 41% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the issue, while 49% disapproved. Immigration produced similar results, with 39% approving of his performance and 54% expressing disapproval.

Economic concerns also remained significant in the survey. Nearly half of Americans, 47%, said the U.S. economy is currently in poor condition. According to the poll, this is the highest percentage recorded on that question since 2023.

The survey was conducted between July 17 and July 20 and included responses from 1,602 adult U.S. citizens. The reported margin of error is 3.3 percentage points.

The results provide another snapshot of how Americans currently view President Trump as his second term continues. While opinions remain divided on some issues, the poll indicates that a majority of respondents expressed unfavourable views regarding both his overall job performance and several aspects of his leadership.
