New Jersey Set for Summer-Like Heat Surge as Temperatures Climb Into the 90s Next Week

New Jersey residents are heading into a warm and sunny weekend, but forecasters say the real heat will arrive early next week as temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s across parts of the state.

The warming trend will begin on Saturday with mostly sunny skies and comfortable conditions for much of New Jersey. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach the low 80s inland, while communities along the Jersey Shore will stay cooler, mainly in the mid-70s because of the colder ocean temperatures. Gusty winds during the afternoon could reach up to 25 mph in some areas.

Saturday night will remain mild compared to recent evenings, with overnight temperatures staying between the upper 50s and mid-60s statewide.

Conditions will turn even warmer on Sunday as temperatures rise into the mid- and upper-80s across inland parts of New Jersey. Shore towns are expected to remain several degrees cooler, with ocean water temperatures still holding in the 50s. Weather officials also noted that there is a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm on Sunday, mainly in southern sections of the state, though most areas are expected to stay dry.

The biggest weather story will develop from Monday through Wednesday, when much hotter air moves into the region. According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, temperatures during this period could come close to daily record highs for mid-May.

On Monday, many parts of New Jersey are expected to see highs in the mid- to upper-80s, while some communities in southern New Jersey could reach the low 90s. The heat is forecast to intensify further on Tuesday and Wednesday, which are expected to be the hottest days of the upcoming stretch.

Forecasters say some locations could see temperatures climb into the mid-90s by the middle of the week, creating early summer-like conditions across the state. The prolonged warmth could also increase humidity levels, making it feel even hotter during the afternoon hours.

The hot weather pattern is not expected to last through the entire week. A cold front is forecast to approach the region late Wednesday into Thursday, bringing the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. The system may linger into Thursday and possibly Friday, keeping rain chances in the forecast for the second half of the week.

By the end of next week, temperatures are expected to return closer to normal seasonal levels after several days of unusually warm weather.

Meteorologists continue to monitor the evolving forecast as New Jersey prepares for one of its warmest stretches of weather so far this year.
