Morristown Teen Dies After Struggling in Morris Township Pond on Independence Day

An 18-year-old Morristown resident died after being pulled from a pond in Morris Township on the evening of July 4, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities identified the victim as Hillario Manuel Mendez-Vincente, 18, of Morristown.
The incident happened at Jones Pond shortly after 6:28 p.m. on Independence Day. Prosecutors said a witness saw a man enter the water and later observed him struggling to swim. The witness then contacted police for help.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and the teenager was pulled from the pond. Despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead.
Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the drowning. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the identity of the victim and said the investigation remains ongoing.
