Former ‘Jersey Shore’ Hotspot Set for Major Transformation as New Residential Complex Moves Forward in Seaside Heights

The site of one of Seaside Heights’ most recognizable nightlife destinations is preparing for a new chapter after local officials approved plans for a large mixed-use residential development in the heart of the borough.

The Seaside Heights Planning Board recently approved updated plans for a six-story residential and commercial project at 201 Boulevard, a property that once housed the well-known Bamboo Bar. The location became widely recognized through MTV’s popular reality television series “Jersey Shore,” where it served as a frequent gathering place for cast members and visitors during the show’s peak popularity.

The approved development will replace the vacant property that has remained unused since the former nightclub was demolished in 2021. Local officials approved the updated proposal during a Planning Board meeting held on May 26, clearing the way for a project that is expected to reshape a prominent section of the downtown area.

Designed by Mode Architects, the new building will feature a Coastal Modern architectural style and combine residential living with commercial space. The project is intended to bring new housing opportunities while also supporting business activity at street level.

According to the approved plans, the development will include a total of 48 residential units. The housing mix will consist of 40 two-bedroom residences, six two-bedroom units with loft space, and two three-bedroom homes. Among the residences will be six two-story homes, including two penthouse units designed to offer additional living space and elevated views.

The project will also include several amenities aimed at future residents. Plans call for 74 ground-level parking spaces, helping address parking needs within the development. A fitness center will be available for residents, while a pool deck facing east on the second floor is expected to provide a recreational gathering area within the complex.

In addition to the residential component, the ground floor will include retail space, creating opportunities for commercial activity and helping maintain a mixed-use environment in one of Seaside Heights’ central corridors. The combination of housing and retail is expected to bring new daily activity to the area while making use of a property that has remained vacant for several years.

For many residents and visitors, the redevelopment marks a significant shift for a location that once played a notable role in the borough’s entertainment scene. The Bamboo Bar was one of the most recognizable nightlife venues in Seaside Heights and became especially well known through its connection to “Jersey Shore,” a television series that brought national attention to the Ocean County beach community.

With approvals now in place, the long-vacant site is positioned to transition from a former nightlife landmark into a modern residential and commercial destination. The project represents one of the more notable redevelopment efforts in the borough’s downtown area and reflects the continuing evolution of Seaside Heights as community leaders look to balance redevelopment, housing demand, and economic activity.

As planning moves forward, the approved complex is expected to transform a highly visible property that has remained empty since 2021, replacing a piece of local entertainment history with a new mixed-use development designed for long-term residential and commercial use.
