Brewers Draft CC Sabathia’s Son Carsten as Power-Hitting Prospect Begins Professional Baseball Journey

Carsten Sabathia III, the son of New York Yankees Hall of Fame pitcher CC Sabathia, has officially taken the next step toward a professional baseball career after being selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 20th round of the 2026 MLB Draft.

The selection marks an important milestone for the young player, who now begins his journey in professional baseball with a franchise that played a memorable role in his father’s legendary career. While CC Sabathia built his reputation as one of baseball’s top pitchers, Carsten has followed a different path by developing into a power-hitting position player.

During his final season at the University of Houston, Carsten delivered a solid offensive performance at the plate. He finished the year with a .283 batting average, a .374 on-base percentage, and a .511 slugging percentage. He also hit six home runs and drove in 18 runs, showing the ability to produce extra-base hits and contribute offensively.

His selection by Milwaukee also creates a unique connection to his family’s baseball history. In 2008, CC Sabathia joined the Brewers in a midseason trade and immediately made a major impact on the club’s playoff push. Over 17 starts during the second half of that season, he posted an outstanding 1.65 earned run average (ERA) and became one of the key reasons Milwaukee secured a postseason berth.

Sabathia’s remarkable performance with the Brewers earned him lasting recognition within the organization. He was later inducted into the team’s Wall of Honor, celebrating his contributions during one of the most memorable stretches in franchise history.

Following the 2008 season, CC Sabathia signed a seven-year contract with the New York Yankees. He went on to help the Yankees capture the 2009 World Series title and spent the remainder of his Major League Baseball career with the organization before retiring. Carsten was only five years old during his father’s memorable run with Milwaukee.
