Animal Processing Waste Spills Across South Jersey Highway After Truck Load Failure, Driver Leaves Scene

A disturbing roadway incident in South Jersey caused public concern on Friday afternoon after a truck carrying animal processing waste lost its load while traveling on a busy highway and then continued driving without stopping.

According to local police authorities, the incident took place on Route 130 in Gloucester City shortly before the evening rush hour. The truck was heading southbound when it came to a stop at a traffic signal. At that moment, the unsecured cargo in the vehicle shifted and spilled onto the roadway.

Officials reported that the truck was transporting waste material from animal butchering, and the load had not been properly secured. As a result, animal parts fell out of the open-top vehicle and spread across multiple lanes of traffic on Crescent Boulevard, which is part of Route 130.

Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured the moment the material spilled over the side of the truck, covering at least two of the three lanes. The footage later confirmed that the driver did not stop after the incident and continued traveling along the highway.

As other vehicles passed through the affected area, debris was further spread across the road surface, creating hazardous driving conditions. Witnesses described the scene as unexpected and disruptive for traffic flow in the area.

Local authorities, including Gloucester City police, confirmed they reviewed video evidence of the incident. Police Chief Brian Morrell stated that the load was not properly secured, which directly led to the spill on the roadway. He also confirmed that officials have obtained surveillance recordings related to the case for further review.

City cleanup crews were later dispatched to remove the waste from the highway. By the following morning, the roadway had been cleared, leaving only visible staining on the pavement, scattered sand used in the cleanup process, and a lingering odor in the area.

Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the truck driver or whether any charges or violations are being considered as the investigation continues.

The incident has raised concerns about transportation safety standards for vehicles carrying industrial or animal processing materials, especially on heavily trafficked public roads where unsecured loads can quickly create hazardous conditions for other drivers.
