Trump Faces Weak Public Approval on Economy and Iran Policy, New National Poll Finds

A newly released national poll shows that former President Donald Trump is facing low approval ratings from Americans on two of the most important issues currently shaping public debate in the United States: the economy and tensions involving Iran.

The poll conducted by Quinnipiac University indicates that a majority of registered voters are dissatisfied with Trump’s performance in both areas. On economic management, only 38% of respondents said they approve of his handling, while 57% disapprove. This marks one of the lowest approval levels recorded for him on this issue in recent polling cycles, matching previous lows seen in October 2025 and again in March of this year.

The survey also highlights strong public concern over Trump’s approach to Iran. According to the findings, 36% of voters approve of how he is managing the situation, while 58% disapprove. The poll further suggests that public opinion remains relatively unchanged compared to late last month, even as international tensions continue to draw attention.

In addition to measuring approval ratings, the poll also examined public attitudes toward potential military involvement involving the United States and Israel in Iran. Around 40% of voters said they support military action, while 53% oppose it. These results reflect a divided public on how the U.S. should approach escalating regional tensions.

The survey also explored expectations about the duration of ongoing geopolitical tensions. A significant majority of respondents, 68%, believe that the current U.S.-Israel operation related to Tehran will continue for an extended period. Among them, 36% expect it to last months, 13% believe it could continue for about a year, and 19% think it may last even longer. Smaller shares believe it will end within weeks or days.

Another notable finding from the poll relates to Trump’s recent strong warning regarding Iran, in which he stated that severe consequences could follow if negotiations failed and key maritime routes were not reopened. When respondents were asked about this statement, 64% said they believe the warning went too far, while 28% said they support it.

Overall presidential approval ratings in the poll also reflect a generally negative outlook. Trump’s overall job approval stands at 38%, compared to 55% who disapprove. When broken down by political affiliation, the poll shows strong support among Republicans at 88%, while only 3% of Democrats and 27% of independents approve of his performance.

The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted between April 9 and April 13 and included 1,028 registered voters. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

These findings highlight ongoing divisions in public opinion as voters continue to evaluate leadership performance on both domestic economic concerns and international security challenges.
