New Polling Signals Sharp Decline in Approval for Vice President JD Vance

A new analysis of polling data has revealed a significant drop in public support for Vice President JD Vance, highlighting growing concerns among Americans about the direction of the current administration. The findings, discussed by a CNN data expert, show a notable shift in how voters view both the vice president and the broader priorities of the White House.
According to the data, many Americans believe the administration is placing too much attention on international matters while not doing enough to address issues at home. A majority of respondents expressed concern that domestic priorities are being overlooked. Specifically, 58 percent of those surveyed said the administration is too focused on foreign affairs, while 60 percent believe there has been insufficient attention given to problems within the United States.
This sentiment appears to be influencing public perception of Vice President Vance. His recent trip to Hungary, where he showed support for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s re-election campaign, has drawn attention at a time when voters are increasingly calling for leadership to concentrate on domestic challenges. Analysts suggest that such international involvement may be contributing to the perception that the administration is disconnected from everyday concerns in the U.S.
The most striking figure from the polling data is the change in Vance’s approval rating. Earlier in his term, in January 2025, he held a positive net approval rating of +3 points. However, that figure has now dropped to -18 points, marking a 21-point swing in a negative direction. This sharp decline places him in a historically weak position compared to past vice presidents at similar stages in their tenure.
When compared with his predecessors, the contrast becomes even more clear. At similar points in their terms, other vice presidents recorded different levels of public support. Kamala Harris stood at -13 points, Mike Pence at -7 points, Joe Biden at +4 points, and Dick Cheney at a strong +37 points. These comparisons suggest that while declining approval ratings may be part of a broader trend, Vance’s current standing is particularly low.
Experts note that this shift could reflect wider dissatisfaction with the administration as a whole. The data indicates that the vice president’s approval is closely tied to public views of the president and overall government performance. As concerns grow over policy focus and leadership priorities, both figures appear to be affected.
The latest polling underscores a key challenge for the administration moving forward. With voters signaling a desire for stronger attention to domestic issues, public perception may continue to shift unless those concerns are addressed. For now, the data paints a clear picture of declining support and rising expectations from the American public.
