Sharp Cooldown Hits New Jersey After Record Warmth, Easter Weekend Brings Another Shift

New Jersey residents are experiencing a sudden and noticeable change in weather today, as temperatures drop significantly following an unusually warm day earlier this week. After enjoying sunny skies and record-breaking warmth on Wednesday, the state is now dealing with much cooler conditions as a cold front settles over the region.
According to official weather updates, afternoon temperatures on Thursday are expected to be around 25 to 35 degrees lower than the previous day. Highs across the state will only reach the mid-40s to mid-50s, creating a stark contrast that many residents will feel throughout the day. Cloud cover will dominate the skies, and there is also a chance of isolated showers developing as the cold front remains stalled near the area.
Winds will add to the chilly feel, with speeds ranging from 10 to 15 miles per hour and gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour, especially along coastal areas like the Jersey Shore. These conditions will make it feel even cooler than the actual temperature, particularly in open and waterfront locations.
As the day moves into the evening, temperatures will continue to drop, with overnight lows expected to fall into the upper 30s and mid-40s. There is also a possibility of fog developing late Thursday night as slightly warmer air begins to move back into the region ahead of Friday.
The colder conditions, however, will not last long. A noticeable warm-up is expected on Friday, with temperatures rebounding into the mid-60s to mid-70s. Wind gusts could again reach up to 25 miles per hour during the afternoon, but overall conditions will feel much more comfortable compared to Thursday.
Looking ahead to the Easter weekend, Saturday is shaping up to be the most pleasant day. Temperatures are forecast to climb into the upper 70s and could even approach 80 degrees in some areas, offering ideal conditions for outdoor plans and holiday activities.
The weather pattern shifts again on Sunday as another cold front moves through the state. This system is expected to bring a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms, some of which could produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. Weather officials have also indicated a risk of isolated minor flooding, depending on how intense the rainfall becomes in certain areas.
Temperatures on Sunday will range from the mid-60s to low 70s before cooler air begins to move in behind the front. By Monday, conditions are expected to improve, with drier weather returning, skies gradually clearing, and winds easing to gusts between 15 and 20 miles per hour.
As the new week begins, temperatures will settle back to more typical early April levels. Daytime highs are expected to remain in the 50s across much of the state, bringing a return to more seasonal conditions after a weekend of weather swings.
This rapid shift from record warmth to cooler air and back again highlights the unpredictable nature of spring weather in New Jersey, where conditions can change quickly within just a few days.
