Louisiana Authorities Charge Father of Grammy-Nominated Singer in Obscenity Case

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that Monty Lopez, the father of Grammy-nominated artist and TikTok star Addison Rae, was arrested for felony obscenity.

An alleged 2024 incident landed the 50-year-old in prison in July. Authorities say Lopez exposed himself publicly. Court filings indicate that he exposed his genitals and pubic area in public with the purpose to commit felony obscenity under Louisiana law.

The case is in Lafayette Parish. Lopez pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on September 2, 2025, according to court documents. Court put his bond at $2,500. His next hearing is March 19.

Sentencing could include one year of hard labor, according to prosecutors. Lopez has not addressed the charges.

In 2019, 25-year-old TikTok sensation Addison Rae became famous. Lopez is her father. After reaching one million followers early in her online career, Rae received national notice. Since then, she has gained over 88 million followers and become a Gen Z icon.

With her 2021 debut track “Obsessed,” Rae began her music career alongside her social media popularity. A 2026 Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist bolstered her music career. With his ex-wife Sheri Easterling, Lopez shares Rae and her brothers Enzo and Lucas.

Lopez’s legal issue is unrelated to his daughter’s job. Authorities stress that the case is ongoing. Lopez is assumed innocent until proven guilty in court in the U.S.

This case shows how seriously Louisiana police take public obscenity claims. Depending on court findings and punishment, felony obscenity charges might have serious implications.

How the matter will progress is expected at the March court session. Legal actions in Lafayette Parish continue till then.
