New Jersey Attorney General Orders Independent Probe After Weapon Discharged During ICE Operation in Roxbury Township

The Acting Attorney General of New Jersey claimed a firearm was discharged during an ICE contact in Roxbury Township. County of Morris investigates.

The New Jersey Attorney General said the incident happened Tuesday during an ICE operation. Authorities reported a gunshot during the confrontation. No injuries have been reported.

Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport says the independent Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating. The office tackles police use of force and other transparency and supervision issues.

In her statement, Davenport said local law police and the Morris County Prosecutor and Sheriff’s Office secured the situation. She noted that the investigation is ongoing and no specifics are provided.

The gunfire’s cause and perpetrator are unknown. Authorities have not established whether the discharge occurred during an arrest attempt or another ICE operation. Police said no one was hurt.

The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability’s involvement suggests state officials are investigating. New Jersey law enforcement is accountable through this independent Attorney General’s Office office.

State officials have not filed charges, disciplinary actions, or findings. As needed, officials will share more information about the investigation.

Roxbury Township residents were informed the issue was under control shortly after. Police stabilized and protected the scene during the preliminary review.
