A $10,000 reward is available for information on the 2020 murder of an Essex County correctional officer. This compensation may motivate witnesses to come forward about the three-year-old murder, police said.

On July 3, 2020, 32-year-old Laquan Nowlin was shot and died outside his East Orange house at South Orange Avenue and Sanford Avenue Police said Essex County Youth Detention Center detention officer Nowlin died on scene. His death shocked the community and law enforcement, exposing public safety risks.

Years later, Essex County Prosecutor Stephens emphasized Nowlin’s death probe. “Six years later, this investigation remains open and active, but a community member may have information that can help us,” Stephens said. “We hope this reward encourages them to come forward.”

Essex County Crime Stoppers offers $10,000. The Essex County Prosecutor requests shooting tips at 1-877-847-7432. Officials promised call and data security.

Police continue to seek community support for this case. Local authorities want justice for Nowlin and his family to be rewarded financially. Prosecutors and police want public assistance to punish perpetrators and soothe victims’ families.

These examples demonstrate the importance for police-community relations. Public cooperation between law enforcement and officials solves crimes and prevents bloodshed.
