New Year Brings Higher Tolls and Transit Costs Across New Jersey

Transport will cost more for New Jersey cars, transit riders, and bikers by 2026. Jersey City and Hoboken CitiBike customers will pay more next month due to state toll increases.
Garden State Parkway and NJ Turnpike tolls rise 3% on January 5. The fifth toll hike since early 2020. From $21.35, cash-paying drivers on the 117-mile Turnpike from the Delaware Memorial Bridge to the George Washington Bridge pay $22. Peak E-ZPass costs $21.88, off-peak $16.40. Parkway one-way mainline plaza tolls will rise from $2.30 to $2.37 for cash and $2.17 to $2.24 for E-ZPass. Paramus, Clifton, and Red Bank exit/entry ramps will elevate.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is raising prices at its six bridges and tunnels by 25% and 3% to account for inflation. E-ZPass off-peak rates will rise from $14.06 to $14.79 and peak from $16.06 to $16.79. Pay-by-plate without E-ZPass costs $23.30, up from $22.38. Fare reductions are scheduled in May to cover PATH’s $10 billion 2026 budget and $45 billion capital plan.
Tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway require E-ZPass or license plates. Egg Harbor and Exit 17 to Route 50 tolls will increase from $4.85 to $4.99 for pay-by-plate users and $3.10 to $3.19 for E-ZPass. Small exits earn 2–4 cents.
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission will raise New Jersey-Pennsylvania bridge costs on January 1. Passenger car tolls are $2 E-ZPass and $5 cash. Tolls for Delaware River Port Authority crossings have not raised.
Hoboken and Jersey City CitiBike users will suffer. Use fees and yearly memberships will hike from $219 to $239 on January 5. Tariffs hiked prices, the company stated.
Financial planning and budget approvals influence agency transportation costs. New Jersey’s highway and transit tolls will rise for operations, infrastructure maintenance, and long-term capital projects. In 2026, commuters and travelers should expect these cost changes.
