Powerful Wind System Set to Sweep Across New Jersey, Residents Urged to Prepare

From Friday to Saturday, experts forecast strong winds over New Jersey. The wind event may cause tree falls, power outages, and risky navigation in coastal and open areas of all 21 counties.

Forecasts anticipate 20–30 mph winds over the state, with stronger gusts during weather systems. In central and Jersey Shore areas, winds can surpass 50 mph. Winds may damage power lines and old trees.

Southwest winds may hit Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, and Mercer. Friday morning winds may knock down trees and electrical lines. Forecasters monitor for brief yet powerful wind bursts during rain or thunderstorms.

Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, and Union have changing daytime breezes. South winds will turn northwest Friday night. The wind may shift direction, but it will still be powerful, making residents uncomfortable.

The wind may impact southern New Jersey and coastal cities hardest. Due of exposure, Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, Cumberland, Atlantic, Ocean, Cape May, and Monmouth are targeted. Strong gusts may hit the shore at predicted wind speeds. Driving bridges and roads in wild winds is difficult.

Before high winds, state and municipal organizations advise households to take minimal safety precautions. Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, holiday decorations, and other items to prevent wind from blowing them into roads or neighboring properties. Large trees and downed power lines should be avoided during outages.

In heavy winds, truck, van, and other high-profile vehicle drivers should slow down. Sudden gusts can make steering tougher in vast areas and coastal routes.

As the wind event subsides by early Saturday, weather authorities say being prepared may reduce risks. Residents should follow local authorities’ condition updates and advise.
