Man Dies by Suicide During Encounter With N.J. Police, Investigators Say

A Penns Grove, New Jersey, man killed himself after speaking to police on Thanksgiving night. Salem County police investigate. Authorities examine what happened and why.

A parking lot near Wawa and McDonald’s on Route 130 was the scene at 8 p.m. Thursday. The Salem County Prosecutor reported Carneys Point police investigation. When police arrived, he exited his car and shot himself with a revolver.

Carneys Point police investigated Penns Grove before the tragedy. Investigators have not revealed what happened at the prior Carneys Point event or if the participant called police before the incident.

The suspect is under investigation, thus authorities have not named them. New Jersey Attorney General appointed Salem County Prosecutor to investigate police encounter death independently. State policies utilize similar judgments.

Penns Grove Mayor La’Daena Londo said as police approached the car Thursday night. She sympathized with the man’s family and advised neighbors on holiday feelings. She said the officers who witnessed it were upset.

The 5,000-person Delaware River community of Penns Grove rarely has disasters. Aid from community. Local officials recommend helping each other in hard circumstances.

Investigators have not supplied a date or information. Police will investigate what happened in Carneys Point to direct them to the parking lot where someone died.
