Keyport Man Fatally Struck After Exiting Vehicle on Turnpike

A 32-year-old Keyport man died in the southbound inner lane of the New Jersey Turnpike near milepost 76 in South Brunswick. NJ State Police say an SUV hit the man after he exited his broken-down car.
The Nissan passenger car hit a Toyota minivan and stopped on the northbound Turnpike inner road center lane, killing the victim. Five cars crashed after the first. First crash included Honda and Kia SUVs.
He crossed the road left from his broken-down car. A southbound SUV killed him in that lane. Police wonder why he parked in that lane.
Before, two Honda SUV passengers were lightly injured. The SUV driver who hit the person may have helped police.
This tragedy illustrates the dangers of exiting a broken-down car at night on a busy morning route. The inner New Jersey Turnpike puts pedestrians at risk when drivers accelerate.
State Police are examining the first five-car crash and how the person survived. Highway safety and waiting for help in a broken-down car were learned.
Villages around Keyport mourn the young man who died in this automobile accident.
