Labor Day 2025 Store Hours: Which Retailers Are Open and Closed This Holiday

While many people love picnics, beach excursions, and back-to-school shopping on Labor Day 2025, one of the most common questions is: which stores will be open? Avoid unexpected closures by knowing federal holiday hours.

Holidays are when many NJ supermarkets are open. On Monday, ACME, Aldi, Amazon Fresh, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Lidl, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Wegmans, and Whole Foods will shift hours Costco, which usually has Labor Day off, will close. Plus members can enter from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., while standard Club members can shop from 10 a.m.

Big retailers will open mostly. Lowe’s, Home Depot, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Macy’s, Burlington, JCPenney, Old Navy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, T.J. Mall customers can choose. Labor Day will see most major New Jersey malls open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. American Dream in East Rutherford and Willowbrook Mall in Wayne will feature end-of-season deals until 9 p.m. Short Hills Mall, Freehold Raceway Mall, and Westfield Garden State Plaza have different hours.

CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid hours vary per location. Family Dollar, Dollar General, and Dollar Tree will open for the holidays. Open but close: Hobby Lobby, GameStop, REI, Bass Pro Shops, Bath & Body Works.

The main Labor Day shopping lesson is that most large businesses and supermarkets are open at varying times. Call beforehand or check your store’s holiday schedule to avoid surprises. Costco is the only large closure; Walmart, Target, Lowe’s, and dozens of New Jersey stores allow holiday shopping.
