Tractor-Trailer Kills Mercer County Man on NJ Turnpike
The early morning New Jersey Turnpike crash killed a 43-year-old Mercer County man. An ordinary trip became tragedy.
New Jersey State Police reported the incident at 2:50 a.m. Sunday on the southbound Turnpike lanes between exits 5 and 4 in Mount Laurel. Hamilton man was in another crash before his tragic one, reports say.
A tractor-trailer going south hit the man near milepost 39.1 after he got out of his car and stepped into the right lane. Authorities claimed the blow was bad and the guy died right away.
The second incident didn’t involve any other cars, and the truck driver was fine. He hasn’t been given a name yet because his family hasn’t been told.
How Turnpike Traffic Will Change
The incident slowed Mount Laurel traffic in the morning. State troopers and emergency workers secured, investigated, and cleaned the road. Southbound cars were delayed for many hours by the partially closed Turnpike.
Investigation Continues
Authorities are examining how the pedestrian entered the travel lane and the initial crash. Nobody has been charged, but officials are determining the timeframe.
Business and commuter vehicles cause many accidents on the New Jersey Turnpike, one of its busiest roadways. Again, State Police warn drivers to stay in their cars and seek for help following an accident. They think walking on busy roads is dangerous and deadly.
Driver Safety Reminder
Officials advise staying in your car after a crash, especially on high-speed highways, until police or emergency services arrive. Huge trucks and other vehicles can’t stop in time on busy highways, endangering pedestrians.
This tragedy shows the risks of busy roads like the New Jersey Turnpike for cars and pedestrians. The victim’s family and Hamiltonians grieve her tragic death while the investigation continues.
