Motorcyclist Dies After Galloway Township Collision Involving Vehicle Leaving Driveway
A motorcyclist was killed Friday night in Galloway Township, New Jersey, after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle that was pulling out of a driveway, police said.
The fatal crash occurred at about 8:46 p.m. near the intersection of Route 30, also known as the White Horse Pike, and South Odessa Avenue in Atlantic County, according to the Galloway Township Police Department.
Police said the motorcycle was travelling west on the White Horse Pike when it struck a vehicle that was entering the roadway from a driveway. Investigators said the vehicle exited the driveway without yielding to the motorcycle.
The force of the collision caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but the rider was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not publicly identified the motorcyclist. His name was being withheld at the time of the initial police report, and additional information about his age or hometown was not immediately available.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured in the crash. A passenger who was inside that vehicle also escaped injury, police said.
The collision prompted a lengthy closure of the roadway as officers worked to document the scene and investigate what led to the crash. The affected section of the White Horse Pike remained closed for approximately three hours while investigators examined the vehicles, roadway and circumstances surrounding the collision.
Police have not indicated that any additional injuries were reported.
The investigation remains focused on the events immediately before the crash, including the movement of the vehicle as it entered the roadway and the motorcycle’s travel along Route 30. Officials have not released further details about speed, possible contributing factors or whether any summonses or charges are expected.
Fatal motorcycle crashes can involve several factors, and investigators typically review physical evidence and witness accounts before reaching conclusions about what happened. In this case, authorities have so far released only the preliminary circumstances of the collision.
