Early-Morning Gunfire at Virginia State University Leaves Five Injured as Multiple Suspects Are Sought
Five people were injured in an early-morning shooting near student housing at Virginia State University in Ettrick, Virginia, on Saturday, Aug. 15, prompting a campus lockdown as law enforcement searched for those believed to be involved.
The shooting happened near the university’s Quad Annexes, a residential area on campus. Police responded shortly before 1:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire and found five people suffering from gunshot wounds outside campus dormitories.
All five victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Police said one person, who was initially reported to have life-threatening injuries, was later listed in critical condition. The other four victims suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
