Walmart Advances New Jersey Store Upgrade Project as Multiple Locations Prepare for Reopenings

Walmart is continuing a major store improvement effort across New Jersey, with several locations either reopening or nearing completion as part of a broader remodeling initiative designed to enhance the shopping experience for customers throughout the state.
The latest milestone came with the reopening of Walmart’s Pennsville location on Friday. The updated store is part of a larger plan that includes improvements at 12 New Jersey stores. The project focuses on creating a more convenient shopping environment through redesigned layouts, expanded services, and faster fulfillment options.
Following the reopening in Pennsville, additional locations are scheduled to welcome customers back after renovations. The Walmart store in Union is expected to reopen on June 12, while the Newton location is approaching the final stages of construction. Several other stores, including Hamilton, Hammonton, and Riverdale, are currently on track for reopenings later in the summer season.
The retailer has also identified six additional New Jersey stores for remodeling work in 2026. Those locations are situated in Cinnaminson, Flemington, Lanoka Harbor, Little Egg Harbor, Millville, and Old Bridge. These projects are part of Walmart’s continuing investment in its physical store network across the state.
According to the company, more than $173 million has been invested in New Jersey stores over the past five years. The current renovation campaign aligns with Walmart’s larger nationwide strategy, which includes remodeling more than 650 stores across the United States this year.
Customers visiting the upgraded stores can expect a refreshed interior layout designed to make shopping easier and more efficient. The renovations are intended to improve navigation throughout the stores while introducing updated departments and service areas.
A key feature of the remodeled locations is the expansion of delivery capabilities. Walmart says most customers served by these stores will have access to delivery options that can bring purchases to their homes in as little as one hour, providing greater convenience for shoppers who prefer online ordering and rapid fulfillment.
The upgrades also include expanded merchandise selections featuring a wider range of products and nationally recognized brands. Interactive displays are being introduced in certain departments to help customers explore products more easily while shopping in-store.
Healthcare-related services are also receiving attention as part of the renovation effort. Updated pharmacy areas will continue to provide prescription medications, vaccines, and clinical services. Walmart+ members will also have access to free pharmacy delivery benefits, including delivery of medications such as GLP-1 treatments where eligible.
In addition, vision centers within the remodeled stores will offer services such as free cleanings and adjustments, further expanding the range of customer services available under one roof.
As renovation work progresses across New Jersey, Walmart’s store modernization plan reflects the company’s ongoing focus on improving convenience, expanding service offerings, and updating store environments to meet changing customer expectations. With several reopenings scheduled throughout the coming months and additional projects planned for next year, shoppers across the state are expected to see continued changes at their local Walmart locations.
